About

I am an independent rare book dealer based in Liverpool, trading under the name Hewett's Books since the summer of 2023. I became a proud member of the Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association (P.B.F.A.) in early 2024. My journey into the world of rare books is deeply rooted in a lifelong passion for literature and the written word.

I graduated with a degree in English Literature from the University of Liverpool in 2022, where my studies helped to deepen my appreciation for literature in all its forms. Upon graduating, I spent valuable time working in a prominent online bookstore, an experience that refined my knowledge of the trade and set the groundwork for my own venture into bookselling.

Books have always held a particular fascination for me, both as objects of historical significance and as vessels of human creativity and culture. I have been collecting rare and antiquarian books since childhood, and my early enthusiasm has matured into a serious and dedicated pursuit in both commerce and collection. In September 2023, I participated in the York Antiquarian Book Seminar (YABS), an experience I found invaluable. The course allowed me to hone my skills further, expand my understanding of the trade, and connect with both seasoned and emerging dealers.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of acquiring and curating significant collections from across the United Kingdom, from libraries in Brighton to Liverpool. My areas of expertise and passion include 19th and 20th-century literature, with a particular focus on Irish fiction, decadent and working-class literature, as well as English mythology and curiosities.

I strongly believe the role of the modern bookseller is to be an agent of culture rather than commerce. We are custodians of culture, charged with preserving our literary history and placing these precious artifacts into the hands of appreciative individuals and institutions. I am committed to maintaining this tradition, ensuring that every book I acquire finds its way to a home where it will be cherished.
